Why is it bad?
The goal in the prompt is unclear and doesn’t provide sufficient detail on what “understand this document” means. It’s not specified what the document is about, what aspects need to be understood, or what format the user expects the information.
- What’s the end goal for understanding the document?
- Need the whole document to be understood?
- What is the summary detail level?
- Definition of “understand” here?
- What output format is expected?
- Preferred tone: formal, casual?

- Give examples to make clear what you’re looking for.
- Ask for feedback to get opinions on your prompt.
- Write clearly using good grammar and spelling.
- Be detailed to get better responses by providing more context.
- Ask AI to be honest. If you don’t need a creative answer and what you need should be based on real facts, tell AI to be honest. This helps to get some “I don’t know” answers, which is better than a wrong answer.
